CLASSROOM ASSISTANT | From August 20259am to 6pm, Monday to FridayTerm Time OnlyFixed term, with the possibility of becoming permanent after 1 year.Closing Date - 30th May 2025Interviews - 5th June 2025Pro-rata salary is £20,526.75 per annum.Job PurposeThe Junior School Classroom Assistant works closely with teaching staff and undertakes daily tasks of educational, personal, social and administrative support, including: • Being responsible to the Head of Junior School and Nursery in contributing to the delivery of the curriculum and providing a service compatible with good practice in the education and care of children within the policies and systems laid down by the school. • Contributing to the pastoral care of pupils and providing support in monitoring and recording their overall developmental progress. • Helping to promote a stimulating environment which balances education and care for children, meeting their individual needs and those of their families, and enabling each individual to reach her potential. • Providing continuity of care and support for children as they move from activities within the school day, into our wrap around After School care provision. • Being an active and collegiate part of the After School Care team, contributing in all ways necessary to the successful delivery of our wrap around care provision.Accountable to:On a daily basis to the Head of Junior School and Nursery, ultimately to the Head.Package DescriptionCompetitive remuneration and benefits package including:-Reduced school fees and wraparound care at St George’s SchoolPension ContributionStaff lunchesAccess to school buses on school bus routes for all staff (small charge payable) Professional learning and development opportunitiesEmployee Assistance ProgrammeGenerous annual leave entitlementCycle-to-work schemeOpportunity to benefit from the use of the many school facilities; libraries; sports facilities etcDeath in service benefits all staffOpportunity to join our community and contribute to social, music, drama and other events and activities.Main ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesGeneral:• To work under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers, undertaking support programmes that enable the access to learning for all pupils. • To assist classroom teachers in the support of pupils’ learning as required, e.g. in areas such as literacy and numeracy, and by providing professional feedback to teachers on pupil progress and areas of concern. • To assist with one-to-one support where appropriate for pupils of all ages, stages and abilities. • To assist with the development of individual education and behavioural plans, helping to set challenging yet achievable expectations for pupils to achieve personal learning goals.• To develop appropriate, trusting and respectful relationships with all pupils, interacting with them in a professional manner at all times, and which takes into consideration their individual needs, personalities and feelings. • To support the use of technology in learning and to assist development of pupil competence and independence in its use, in line with pupil age and ability. • To assist with the organisation and delivery of all learning and creative activities in the classroom. • To mount and display pupils’ work to a professional standard, as directed by the class teachers, and to assist with the refresh and upkeep of classroom and corridor displays. • To be responsible for playground duty every morning and afternoon, in supervising and encouraging pupils to play, and assisting them when resolving any playground disputes utilising a calm, fair and consistent approach. • To assist with lunchtime duties in the Dining Hall in relation to classes and pupils who would require assistance. • Some administrative work may be required from time to time, however, Classroom Assistants are not responsible for marking pupils’ work. • To recognise the difference between the school day and wrap around care, adjusting expectations and care accordingly and in line with school and colleague standards. To the Pupils:• To encourage pupils to take an active part in the life of the school, to improve their own academic performance and to participate in the full life of the Junior School • To stimulate and encourage pupils to a high standard of interest and work, ensuring the needs of each individual are met. • To ensure knowledge and observation of health, safety and behaviour codes which encourages safe, community-focused conduct. • To promote good pupil conduct, in accordance with the Junior School behaviour policy, and following positive behaviour strategies which will encourage pupils to have ownership and understanding of their actions.• To uphold policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection and data protection. • To contribute towards monitoring uniform and dress codes in line with school expectations and standards. • To support the pupils in Junior School as they transition into the wrap around care period of the school day, recognising that their needs may be different at this stage of the school day. To the Junior School:• To develop positive communications with other members of the Junior School and After school Care team, working as a supportive and respectful colleague. • To take part in relevant departmental meetings as required by the Head of Junior School and Nursery. • To keep abreast of relevant educational developments and to attend appropriate in-service training. • To work alongside professionals from both within and out with the school environment who can offer insight, support and resources to aid the learning and development of identified individuals. • To be open towards receiving professional feedback from members of the school leadership team relating to performance and contributions, in order to improve within the role. • To support, as appropriate, activities out with the classroom such as trips, visits or competitions. • To offer, as appropriate, to initiate and help with committees and extra-curricular activities.To the Whole School:• To work with colleagues to promote and maintain high standards of learning, pastoral care and behaviour throughout the school. • To promote the positive image and reputation of the school through all actions and interactions with others within, or connected to, our school community. • To practice the rules and guidelines surrounding Health and Safety, ensuring that pupils are aware of and comply with them. • To maintain high personal standards of punctuality and appearance. • To seek Head’s authorisation for any anticipated absence from school and give as much notice as possible of unavoidable absence through sickness.• To attend all relevant meetings with colleagues and to participate in in-service training. To the Parents:• To seek to build professional, respectful relationships with parents to promote a healthy Junior School community and working partnership. • To work as part of the Junior School and After School Care teams to provide accurate, supportive feedback about their child’s day, learning and activities in school. • To inform the class teacher or members of the Junior School leadership team if a parent raises a concern in relation to school policies and procedures, or in relation to a child or member of staff.Keeping Informed:• The Classroom Assistant will liaise with their class teachers and arrange to meet at a mutually convenient time. • Junior School meeting minutes are circulated by email. • Classroom Assistants have their Professional Review and Development (PRD) interview with a member of the Junior School Leadership Team in the summer term.
