Inteview Date: 28 May 2025About the roleThe Senior Registered Nurse has responsibility for supporting the Head of Inpatient Services, Sisters and wider Inpatient Unit Team.The focus of this role is on the day-to-day delivery of excellence in quality care provision. The post holder will be required to take charge of a shift on a regular basis and provide nurse leadership as required.Key DutiesTo provide a service of high-quality palliative care nursing to patients and families.To act as a resource for professionals and non-professionals involved in palliative care.To mentor, support and develop junior staff.Assessment of more complex patient conditions and support to junior staff in clinical decision making.Provide informal teaching through role modelling and mentoring.To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with patients and those important to them, the hospice multi-disciplinary team, and external professionals.Essential criteriaAn NMC RegistrationFurther study in appropriate area or willing to work towardsHave an awareness of the clinical needs of the whole departmentAwareness, understanding and experience of the principles and philosophy of palliative careRecognises the need for evidence-based practice and continued professional developmentA comprehensive understanding of symptom control in palliative careUnderstanding of clinical governance, including audit and regulatory workAbility to assess, provide and evaluate high standards of care without supervisionAbility to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary teamExcellent organisational skillsAbility to supervise unqualified and newly qualified staffAbility to plan and balance prioritiesAbout usSouthern Hospice Group is the largest group of hospices in Sussex and one of the largest in the UK. We are committed to providing exceptional and compassionate care to adults, children and their families across Sussex.
