Astute People is exclusively partnering with Augean to recruit an Operations Manager to join their established team at their Waste Recovery Park facility in Port Clarence, Middlesbrough.

The strategically important Operations Manager role comes with a salary of around �40,000 plus package and is based full time at the facility.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Site Manager you will be responsible for:

� Drive operational performance of the site, ensuring daily operations meet and exceed daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs, proactively addressing any shortfalls with a positive and results-driven approach.

� Lead continuous improvement activities by developing and implementing initiatives to optimise plant efficiency and workforce utilisation, ensuring ongoing operational enhancements.

� Lead the resolution of significant operational challenges, ensuring timely and effective outcomes and providing focused support in areas of need.

� Ensure health, safety and compliance is managed on Site and any issues are identified, reported, investigated and rectified.

� Develop operational forecasts and, in collaboration with Commercial Managers, create and adjust plans for plant and process sequencing to meet targets.

� Oversee overall site operations, balancing hands-on and strategic management, while effectively responding to unexpected challenges.

� Manage all daily site communications, including work planning, progress reporting, toolbox talks, and availability updates.

� Lead medium-term capacity planning, oversee project execution and contribute to the overall business unit’s growth.

� Strengthen the Supervisory level within Operations and the Technical team to improve flexibility across processes, site resilience, risk management, and commercial performance.

� Collaborate with other business units both formally and informally to drive positive business outcomes.

� Act as the Site Manager’s deputy in their absence.

� Undertake any additional tasks reasonably required.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

� NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safety

� Process and Production qualification (desirable)

� WAMITAB Level 4 in Transfer & Treatment (desirable)

� HNC or degree in Chemistry or similar (preferred)

� Leadership and Management Certificate (desirable)

Personal skills

The Operations Manager role would suit someone who has:

� Proven experience managing large teams in a process environment.

� Waste industry knowledge and qualifications preferred.

� Hands-on operational and supervisory experience.

� Target-driven with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

� Solid technical understanding and practical knowledge of waste processing compliance and enforcement.

� Business acumen—understanding cash flow, P&L, and operational impact.

� Positive, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
