What You'll Be Doing:
Join our team as an occupational therapist and play a key role in improving the lives of patients who are experiencing a sudden or severe medical condition, injury, or surgery.
Here's an overview of the key roles and responsibilities:
* Assessment : OTs assess the patient's physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning. This includes evaluating their ability to perform daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, eating, and moving around their environment.
* Treatment Planning : Based on the assessment, the OT develops a personalized treatment plan that addresses the patient's immediate needs, goals, and recovery trajectory. The plan will focus on enhancing mobility, strength, fine motor skills, and overall independence.
* Therapeutic Interventions : OTs provide hands-on treatment, which may include exercises to improve strength, range of motion, or coordination, as well as adaptive techniques to help with daily activities. They might recommend assistive devices (e.g., splints or walking aids) to enhance mobility and independence.
* Education and Training : OTs educate patients and their families about strategies to manage activities of daily living (ADLs) more effectively. This could include safe transfer techniques, joint protection, or adapting the environment to make it more accessible.
* Discharge Planning : In an acute setting, the OT helps plan for the patient's discharge, ensuring that they are able to continue rehabilitation at home or in a less intensive setting. They may also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless transition.
* Collaboration : Acute OTs work closely with doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care. They contribute valuable insights into the patient's ability to function in their daily environment.
* Psychosocial Support : Acute OTs often address mental health concerns, such as anxiety or depression, that may arise due to an injury or illness. They provide coping strategies and emotional support to help patients adapt to their new circumstances.
Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* a current and valid HCPC registration
* experience working in a hospital setting
* strong communication and interpersonal skills
* the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
* a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
Working Hours & Contract Duration:
This role offers a flexible working position requires availability from Monday-Friday with flexibility where possible. The contract is for 3-6 months with a strong possibility of extension based on performance and service needs.
