An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Distribution System Operator (DSO) Curtailment Team Leader to be based at Tipton, Bristol, Cardiff or Castle Donington.
The DSO Curtailment Team is a new team which will be responsible for the development of curtailment tooling, improvement of curtailment data and the production of curtailment reports. The team will be focussed on improving the curtailment reporting offering we provide to our customers through self-serve data and bespoke reporting. The team will also work closely with DSO Network Operations to develop improved capability to monitor and optimise customer curtailment.
As the leader of the DSO Curtailment Team, you will oversee the development and enhancement of curtailment tools, data improvement, and production of reports. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality curtailment reporting services to our customers while driving internal efficiency and strategic improvements.

Main ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Team Management:
Lead, motivate, and develop the DSO Curtailment Team, ensuring alignment with business objectives
Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical direction to team members, fostering a supportive and high-performance environment
Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor team progress to achieve deliverables effectively
Provide a supportive environment for trainees and new starters, acting as a mentor and directing work as appropriate
Scope work for consultants and provide technical oversight and approval
Technical and Strategic Oversight:
Drive the development and deployment of automated curtailment analysis tools, ensuring they meet customer and business needs.
Lead the creation and delivery of external and internal curtailment reports.
Strategize and implement opportunities for process and data enhancements to improve curtailment reporting and modelling capabilities.
Represent the company at specialist groups or national working groups, providing expert insights on curtailment issues.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Act as the primary business contact for curtailment reporting, collaborating with stakeholders across departments.
Communicate updates, changes, and outcomes to the wider business effectively.
Provide industry updates to stakeholders and engage with customers on curtailment queries.
Technical Expertise:
Be the main point of technical expertise relating to curtailment modelling and the impact on the network.
Drive the integration of tooling with power system software and ensure smooth operation across departments.
Ensure data quality by coordinating with data owners and maintainers, driving an ‘automate-first’ approach.
Scope and manage consultant engagements, ensuring technical standards and approvals are maintained.
The Ideal CandidateThe role requires strong organisational skills, with the ability to lead a team responsible for projects and deliverables simultaneously. Formal management experience and qualifications are desirable and experience with an Agile approach to project delivery would be beneficial.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse teams. Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to a variety of audiences. Ability to identify and drive strategic opportunities for process and system improvements.
You should be self-motivated, inquisitive and demonstrate a clear knowledge of the principles and issues associated with distribution network design, load management schemes and network curtailment.
An electrical engineering degree or equivalent qualification is required.
The ability to present information in a clear and reasoned way, together with an open yet analytical approach to problem solving, and good computer skills are essential to the role. The successful candidate will be process driven and have a focus on data quality and an ‘automate-first’ approach to enable effective management of and development of the curtailment capability.
Experience with power system software including PSS Sincal, DINIS, Aspen OneLiner, PSSE, IPSA or Power Factory would be extremely beneficial. Experience in scripting languages, particularly Python would be advantageous.
Excellent IT skills are essential, although training will be given on internal applications used.
