Main ResponsibilitiesYou will be accountable to the Team Manager primarily for the provision of specialist protection services, underground fault location work, and managing projects of an underground / overhead nature, for your own and other teams. You will ensure that the standards within the specialisms are maintained at all times.
The main activities within the role will include:-
Provision of specialist protection services up to 33kV
Provision of specialist underground, overhead and automation services up to 33kV
Managing, planning, installation, commissioning and maintenance of equipment including specialist non-standard equipment on the underground and overhead networks.
Provision of specialist advice
Development in the use of protection testing and automation equipment.
Advise own and other team members on innovations in electricity network management, protection and automation.
The carrying out of network operations on both the overhead and underground network including the issuing of safety documents up to 33kV (Including 11 & 33kv SFT).
The Ideal CandidateThe successful applicant should be able to demonstrate their knowledge and practical experience of system protection schemes, underground and overhead networks and knowledge of automation equipment. You should have the ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining the highest standards of work quality, safety and discipline.
A flexible attitude is essential as you may be asked to undertake other duties to assist the team in meeting its objectives. In addition, you will need to be mobile throughout the area as you will be required to undertake standby duties.
The successful candidate is required to have a Level 3 City & Guilds 2339, or equivalent, and if not already attained will be required to undertake a HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Operationally we require you to live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
