An opportunity has become available for a Communications and Engagement support, within the Future Capability team. The team are investigating how to create the networks of the future, and test ideas to help us achieve Net Zero through a portfolio of innovation projects and then roll the best ideas out into operation.

To successfully deliver this aim, it is essential we build excellent relationships and influence with our internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Future Capability Programme Lead, you will be responsible for organising efforts that support these key areas:


To build valuable capabilities, we need to understand the drivers and expectations of our stakeholders of the future. This means that we need to be able to identify and engage with important stakeholders of the future.
To be able to succeed in rolling out capability, we need to ensure that internal and external stakeholders are able to understand the work we have done, the work we are doing and why it matters.


* Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

Main Responsibilities
Create, manage and maintain a Communications strategy for the team.
Develop and own a process that explains to internal and external stakeholders, the scope of our activities, the value of doing them and how we go on to use them in our business, this will include applying for industry awards where appropriate.
Respond, often at short notice, to requests for information about our efforts from key stakeholders.
Organisation and delivery of events that showcase the work of the Future Capability Team and our supporters including, but not limited to, the Energy Innovation Summit, Utility Week and 26tozero events.
Working with Innovation and Deployment engineers to distil highly complex learnings into a narrative that is inspiring and accessible to a wide spectrum of stakeholders.
Organisation of eye catching dissemination and promotional content (written, video and graphical) that conveys a strong and deliberate narrative.
Transmission of this content through a diverse set of internal and external channels (Social media, SharePoint, internal and external press releases, 3rd party events)
Monitoring of communications efforts to understand efficacy and impact.
Organisation and management of events that gather insight, opinions and ideas from internal and external stakeholders.
Assisting the team to keep up with latest industry develops by monitoring updates from external stakeholders.
Management and analysis of important stakeholders for the Future Capability function including keeping the stakeholder database up to date, ensuring team members record their learning from key events using day after reports,  and logging reports of the team’s stakeholder engagement activity

The Ideal CandidateDo you have experience in developing and implementing communication campaigns and event management and tracking?  Are you able to write and track communication plans and strategy?

We are looking for an effective communicator with a creative streak, who will work well with stakeholders and team members alike.  With an eye for detail you will be reliable, organised and enthusiastic, with the ability to work as part of the team or using your own initiative.

The successful candidate will have experience in reporting and analysis on comms, enabling clear identification of what works and what doesn’t.

You must have experience in writing and developing content and be proficient in MS office and social media applications.

It will be advantageous for the successful candidate to have some understanding of the energy industry and it’s key stakeholders and experience of video editing would be preferable but is not essential.

As there is some travel involved with this role, a full UK driving licence is required.

This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) check.  Depending on the role, different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
