We are recruiting for a Contracts Manager to join Tarmac working on the Smart Motorways Project. You will work on this large project to optimise the performance of working to ensure this project comes in on time and within budget. You will be based from our Snodland site, you will work with Highways teams across Smart Motorway projects in the London and South East region.

This role is commutable from London, Maidstone, Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Hempstead, Sevenoaks, Orpington, Swanley, Dartford, Bromley, Tonbridge, Gravesend, Rainham, Swanley, Sittingbourne and the surrounding areas.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe Contracts Manager will work with the team to deliver the highly strategic project that is fundamental for operational production and business growth.  As the Contracts Manager you will provide leadership, guidance and direction to ensure all stated objectives, aims and targets are achieved in relation to Tarmac's contribution to the introduction and improvement of Smart Motorways. You will ensure that the team maximise financial returns on all contracts, full compliance with safety and business policies and procedures, the effective allocation of operational resources and drive best practice and continuous improvements across the Business Area along with delivering first class customer service to our clients, drive efficiency improvements throughout the scheme and looks to maximise financial returns for Tarmac. You will plan, create, manage and be instrumental in all activities, you will have the ability to problem solve, innovate, and drive performance to the highest levels.

As the Contracts Manager must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures and be able to coordinate a team of professionals of different disciplines to achieve the best results. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and great organisational skills.

Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):


Lead and ensure delivery of the Smart Motorways Strategy
Contribute to the improvement of turnover and volumes in relation to Smart Motorways and help to secure a long term work bank
Be responsible for the development of the projects commercial strategy that supports the effective delivery of the Commercial elements of the business' strategy, business plans and objectives
Identify and secure key strategic commercial opportunities to deliver budgeted volumes, margin expectations and growth
Drive the Smart Motorways Operational Strategy, ensuring that all operational activities comply with safety and business policies and procedures and are delivered within the required budget
Drive the effective management of any exposure to both financial and risk, maximising financial return on all contracts and ensuring prompt cash collection within contract provisions
Work closely with internal and external supply to reduce delays and the cost to serve customers
To drive performance improvements in relation to Smart Motorway activities Share best practice across Smart Motorway projects
Delivery of contracts with no financial/ contractual risks, maximise financial return on contract, cash collected within required timeframe
Actively involve self in the resolution of contract disputes to maximise sustainable profit and cash flow
Leveraging One CRH and increasing RONA by maximising the utilisation of in-house materials/up stream contribution
Identify potential risks and opportunities within the contract and strategies to manage them Communication is key with colleagues, managers and contractors across the whole project to ensure all tasks are performed promptly, you must have the tact and diplomacy when dealing with tense situations that can arise at any moment during the project's life cycle


Key Stakeholders: Tarmac & CRH Management Team - Area Operations Managers - Finance – Contractors – Site Management - Supply Chain – Engineers – Technical – Operations – Human Resources – Project Team - Contractors

You will hold a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points
The Ideal CandidateThe successful applicant in the role will be instrumental in the future development and support of our culture. You will have experience within a Construction, Highways or Surfacing industry, this experience will be an essential requirement for this role; road or highways surfacing knowledge would be extremely beneficial.

Qualifications/Requirements/Capabilities:


Desirable - HNC/HND, or a Degree in a role related discipline as this would prove highly beneficial in your success in the role
Health & Safety NEBOSH or IOSH Certified
Desirable - Management experience on multi-million-pound operational, construction or heavy engineering project/s
Challenge people, hold them accountable for job completion and quality of completion
Computer literate - familiarity with computer software - word, excel, etc
Good communication skills, with a positive, proactive can - do attitude to both colleagues and external agencies / contractors
