The Edinburgh Academy seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate person to perform the role of Assistant Director of Rugby. The successful candidate will work in both the Junior and Senior school alongside the Director of Rugby in delivering the schools’ rugby programme.

The role operates between August-March, during the rugby season.

Opportunities to extend this to three terms can be discussed, depending on the skillset of the successful candidate in providing a summer term sport (cricket or athletics in particular).

Main ResponsibilitiesThe detail below lists the main responsibilities of this role.  It is not an exhaustive list of tasks.


Work closely with the Director of Rugby to deliver a high-quality rugby programme across the Senior and Junior School.
Lead the Junior School rugby programme from P4-P6, including the expansion of our P5 fixture programme
Oversee the administration of the rugby programme, including communicating with parents and updating fixture arrangements on SOCS.
Support with Saturday morning games
Assist with the Senior School rugby coaching programme during the week
Provide coaching guidance, support and technical expertise to staff
Support the strength and conditioning programme alongside the Athletic Development Coach

Have strong interpersonal skills
Willing to share knowledge and expertise with teaching and coaching staff alike, providing guidance alongside the Director of Rugby
Have an energetic, creative, positive and humorous approach to rugby sessions
Be detailed orientated, well-organised and flexible
Have excellent organisational skills, adept at managing multiple tasks concurrently
Be an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
Embrace a growth mindset, using this approach to underpin coaching sessions and player development
Be committed to personal development, actively seeking opportunities to learn and improve
Have a genuine love for the game and enjoy working with children of all ages / abilities
Be passionate about the role of sport in developing well-rounded young people


They will also have the following qualifications or experience:


Hold an appropriate rugby coaching qualification – Aspiring Coaches qualification/UKCC Level 2 minimum –Essential
Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of coaching children of all ages, specifically P4 upwards - Essential
Have experience working in different rugby environments (minis, midis, boys / girls, school, club) - Essential
Hold an appropriate coaching qualification in either cricket or athletics - Desirable
Have experience coaching Strength and Conditioning - Desirable
Computer literate – experience using MS Office products (especially Outlook, Word and Excel)  - Essential
Experience using databases or other systems to organise workload and communicate with parents and other stakeholders - Essential

About the school/organisationThe Edinburgh Academy is a fully co-educational school. The School consists of a Senior School, Junior School and a Nursery Department. The School is a member of HMC. The Edinburgh Academy moved to full co-education across the whole school in 2008. The Junior and Senior Schools are on separate sites, both of which have spacious grounds and sports facilities including extensive playing fields, an all-weather sports area, and a large Sports Hall and Centre.
